My girlfriend and I read the reviews and went for breakfast this morning. I will start this review by letting you know that the reviews of great food and spotty service are almost completely accurate We went at 6:30AM, so we almost missed the building because in the dark of pre-dawn, the building (in a small strip) could be missed easily. The ambiance and decor were warm and combined rustic with modern and the early morning smell of cooking food was pleasing. We were greeted upon entering, but the single waitress (initials AS from bill) did not seem inviting (lack of smile and somewhat distant in interaction). She sat us at a booth and as I looked around, we saw that there were two other couples in booths and a single diner at the counter this early morning. Upon seating, the waitress took our drink order, checked on a table and then promptly filled our drinks and returned. I ordered the Mexican Skillet with scrambled eggs, dollar pancakes, and orange juice. My girlfriend got the steak and eggs (she went with the Prime Rib and over easy) with dollar pancakes as well, along with some coffee. The juice was fresh and the coffee was strong and flavorful. The food came out in a reasonable time and was hot, smelled tempting, and was presented well. My girlfriend always asks for separate plates (a food touching issue) and was accommodated perfectly. The skillet was layered nicely with crisp hash browns on the bottom, the skillet ingredients next and then topped with scrambled eggs. The salsa and sour cream atop were the perfect compliment. My girlfriend's prime rib was done correctly and the eggs cooked perfectly. She had ordered a side of hollandaise and it was plentiful and freshly prepared. The silver dollar pancakes had hints of spice and flavor and were perfect sized as a complement to the meal. Overall, the meal was quite filling and tasted spectacular. The total of our bill was roughly $27.00 and for the portions given was of good value for the money. Although, comparatively, my skillet was $8.00 and the juice $2.75. The steak and eggs was $15.00 and the coffee $2.00. So, the value on food was superb and the value on beverage was average. Now, our waitress was accommodating and did her job well checking on the food and neeeds, but a friendly face and welcome in the early morning makes things perfect! We did get her to smile slightly near the end of the meal, but up until then, she was just a good server doing her job. I hope that she can be a bit more personal because it would raise my review from 4 stars to 5!!!!!! Since this was our first visit, I will not say it is a trend or that other servers are similar, but it is the first impression! Thank you to the chef, waitress, and owners. It was a good morning!

Evidently the breakfasts and AYCE fish fry is fantastic, affordable, but then, there are dozens of breakfast cafes in West Bend already, so I can't imagine it's THAT stellar). I decided to treat myself and my son to dinner there one night after work-only 1 other table-HORRIBLE service! The waitress (VERY polite/personable) filled our drinks up once then disappeared for about 10 minutes before taking our order (guess she was outside smoking with the cook as I'd seen upon arriving?). Upon seeing the WAY over-priced menu (it's in a mini business mall on a corner adjacent to a daycare and the welfare office, NOT in some charming old converted house/business that might garner higher prices, although the interior IS surprisingly very cabin like/rustic)with limited menu selections-nothing very appealing (schnitzel, Reubens and sausages were pretty much the extent of "German" fare-although sides of spaetzel and sauerkraut were supposed to compensate?). I decided upon something I've NEVER ordered in a restaurant in my entire life: a chef salad which was close to $9 I believe? I was prepared to splurge a bit, but with a limited budget and not wanting my son to order chicken tenders/grilled cheese, told him to order freely, whatever he wanted from the regular menu. Again, there were only 2 other tables (2 people each), but we waited like 20 minutes for our meals (I made an extra effort to be patient since my normal response would be to simply pay for the drinks and leave, I often leave full carts by checkouts when the line is too long, order at a drive through then leave if I'm sitting there more than 5 minutes, etc. ) So, for me to wait nearly 30 minutes is a record, but definitely did NOT put me in a good mood (starving, tired after working, thinking I'd be "treated" for a change-as in not stressing to make dinner and serve it myself to others, then clean everything afterwards-it IS a huge treat for me). The salad was phenomenal-BUT enough for 3-4 people to split easily, nearly an entire head of iceburg lettuce as the base, being as it was my "dinner", I ate all the toppings, and salad really doesn't do well as a leftover. My son had a pulled pork sandwich and it was fantastic. If I'd had known how large the portions were I would've simply ordered a single pulled pork sandwich and easily split it. After being served our food (Only 2 other tables seated at the time), our waitress came back once to refill our drinks, ask how everything was, then disappeared again. Still trying to maintain my "patient" mode, we waited for quite a while (5 or 10 minutes at least), until I finally said, "Let's go!" to my son, got up to leave and had to ASK for my bill. As a former waitress for MANY years, I often WAY over tip for good service-(10% is a joke/insult by the way), sometimes even 50% of my bill, although I'm not 'rich' by any means, I appreciate the service/luxury, I take into account if the waitress has tons of other tables (or a big table), but in our case, there were only 2 other tables (2 people each), so I stiffed her, NO qualms about it, there was no excuse for her lack of attention and service.

I've been here at least 3 times for breakfast. The food is always excellent, the service is always excellent and the value is excellent (large portions, reasonable prices). The hashbrowns are even homemade (however, potatoes are precooked, fyi). All in all a good stop...

I have been there for breakfast lunch and dinner. Every time had been great. The german food is great! The portion size is good. Alot for your money. It's not all Germann food and have something for everyone.

We were looking for gluten-free friendly restaurants in West Bend since we were staying in town over New Year's. This restaurant was listed as a possibility and it absolutely was! There were alot of possible dishes for me to eat but I rarely pass up the chance to have pasta in a restaurant. My pasta dish was outstanding and they had gluten free bread! And they had a chocolate muffin that was so yummy for dessert that was also gluten free. My husband had the oxtail stew and he did everything but lick the plate. If you like sweet and sour cabbage, definitely order it as a side dish...it was outstanding. The staff couldn't have been more accommodating and we will definitely go back on our next visit to West Bend.

Fantastic pancakes. Went for breakfast and had the fruit plate and one fantastic pancake. It had a touch of cinnamon and nutmeg, was light, and served hot - absolutely delicious. The seasonal fruit included strawberries, blueberries, and slices of watermelon, cantaloupe and pineapple. Delicious.

me and hubby had a lunch there ,food r ok but the dining has a lot of flies flying ..

Breakfast was amazing here...at first it seems pricey, but you get a massive amount of food that you can tell is made from scratch. My husband got the lumberjack breakfast for $9: 3 eggs, 2 pancakes, 2 pieces of bacon, 2 sausage links, hashbrowns and 4 pieces of toast. Definitely worth it!

Very average at best. I had a perch fish fry and was rather oily. The cheeseburger my daughter had was very low quality. It was the worst tasting meat on a burger I have ever tried. Service was ok but short on staff for a Friday night where there was a wait. Owner came around to some tables to see how everything was but not everyone. No over friendly and somewhat "socially awkward" actually. Probably not going back except maybe to give them a try at breakfast.

First time visiting. At first, price seemed a little high, however, once you see the size of the portions you'll understand. Food was very good. Restaurant is very charming and cozy. Service could have been a little friendlier, but all in all our experience was good and we would go back.

The Braising Pan has truly excellent German cuisine. Their portion sizes guarantee that you won't be leaving hungry, and more likely will have a second meal waiting for you the next day. The dishes are thoughtfully designed, allowing for the striking varieties of flavors to come come together for an unforgettably pleasing meal. I'm honestly very sad I waited so long to go to The Braising Pan, but comforted knowing that it will be far from my last visit!

Took my parents there for lunch. Two out of four meals were ice cold in the center. There was something wrong with three out of four. Not in a hurry to try it again. If I want German food, I can go to any family gathering. Was hoping for something new.

Went here for the first time for lunch last week. Have to say I wasn't expecting to like it because I'm not a huge fan of German style food, nothing against it but I usually prefer Hot and Spicy type of stuff, pretty much the hotter the better. Fortunately, I was pleasantly surprised, yes, they do have German food but they have so much much more. My wife and I got a couple of appetizers, the German Nacho's, what's that you ask..........divine I say. Yummy. Those were off the charts good. Didn't really know what to expect with that but the dish is excellent, it's home made potato chips, cheese, onions, pieces of bratwurst and..........wait for it.......bacon. Those were excellent, can't wait to go back to get them again. We also the got the meat roll up thingys, can't remember what they were called but those were also good, kind of a meat roulade with cabbage and I think cheese in the middle nestled in a pool of gravey, they came with a side of sauce of some type, kind of tasted like thousand Island dressing but very good indeed. With the aps, I figured I'd just order a light lunch. so I ordered a spinich salad with hot bacon dressing (light lunch......ha!) That was the real rock star of our dinning experience, first it was enourmous, served on a dinner plate it must have been an entire bag of spinich, i love spinich so this was awesome. The hot bacon dressing and chunks of bacon were excellent. While waiting for our lunch to arrive we looked at both the breakfast and lunch menu's and I have to say, I can't wait to go back for Breakfast! they really know how to temp an appetite. I have to say that I was a little sorry I didn't order a hamburger that day because I saw a few walk past our table that looked and smelled great. So even though in the past I was not a realy big fan of German food, I would have to say I'm going to give it another shot, some of the menu offerings looked like they had my name all over it. Especially the Oxtail soup/stew. Our service that day was prompt and efficient and I have to say I can't wait to go back. Fortunately I live in the WB so that won't be a long wait. Great Job Braising pan, can't wait to get back.

We thought we were hungry when we got here... we really did. Everything on the menu looked good and we couldn't decide if we wanted to split an entree or each get our own. So we decided to start with the German nachos and go from there. They're fairly gigantic (definitely designed for more than two people), very tasty, and very heavy. And they pretty much guaranteed the two of us were not getting an entree at all. We had just enough room for the deep fried brie, which was *amazing*. We had to force ourselves to finish it because we were stuffed but there was no way we were going to let any of that go to waste. Our server was very sweet, but she had a high-maintenance table next to us who needed everything explained in great detail every time she stopped by, so we didn't get a lot of attention. (She was very apologetic about it though, and it wasn't something we could really hold against her...) Drinks were average and prices were unsurprising. We had grand plans to go back again before we rolled on out of West Bend, but we ran out of time. Definitely on our to-do list when we come back next summer.

Holy crap man. This place is great. The interior isn't all that special, it's nice and it's clean but nothin to write home about. There's outdoor seating for 30 people, which is nice but the view is lacking. The staff was very attentive and kind, but not overbearing. The food though...completely amazing. I've had very little of the menu, I'll add more to this list in time. Spinach and Artichoke dip - perfectly smooth, served with these soft garlic cuts of flat bread. A hard dish to mess up, but respectable when it's done so perfectly. Bourbon Burger - my eyes rolled back in my head with every bit I took. I swear, this is right at the top of my list of best burgers ever. The bun was perfectly toasted, the meat was cooked exactly how I asked, the sauce was a rich and sweet bourbon glaze with champagne caramelized onions. It was incredible. You have no idea. Drinks We ordered a couple raspberry mojitos, and they were spot on. Edit 1: Lowered my rating to a 3. Went to The Braising Pan for breakfast and it was very average. I know there's typically only so much you can do with bacon, eggs, and pancakes....but, for the basics, they just weren't that good.

The food is awesome!! And the mimosas are even better. Highly recommend, especially on a Sunday morning. The eggs benedict is the best I've had.

Maybe I've become a food snob since moving out of Wisconsin, but regardless this place was nothing special. My mom and I split the Patty Melt and the Monte Cristo. I was unimpressed by the Monte Cristo and should have just stuck with the Patty Melt. The Monte Cristo, is a combination of ham, turkey and Swiss cheese that is served between thin French toast. In theory it sounds great, right? Well, it's not that great. The French toast was soggy- probably from the melted cheese and the mixture between sweet and savory was something I couldn't wrap my mind around. Ps- if you were a big fan of their amazing steak fries, I hate to be the one to break it to you but they no longer serve those.

I've had good experiences ever time I've been here. They have good service, good food, and decent prices. What more do you want? It is a little on the small side so sometimes there can be a wait. Call ahead for reservations on Friday and Saturday night for sure. Make sure you try their German potato salad. Awesome stuff.
(4)Ana B.
The majority of the German entrees are very close to authentic. The owners make the rounds to the tables which makes you feel much more than just a customer. The waitstaff is friendly but many times have too many tables. The current chef & sous are a great addition to this restaurant. One thing in particular I heard from several friends is the German potato salad needs more vinegar. I know this is Grandma's recipe, but it just might need a little tweaking. The decor needs to be updated. It gives the feeling of eating in a backwoods diner.
(4)Chris M.
Had a excellent breakfast today at the Braising Pan. We have eaten breakfast and lunch and dinner and every meal has always been very good and filling. The service today was top notch.
(5)Judy D.
Incredible service, generous portions, amazing food, great prices.... Need I say more? This was our first time here but it's definitely going to be our new go-to.
(5)Barbara D.
My four year daughter had chocolate chip pancakes and was thrilled. I had spinach soup and a half of sandwich and loved it. The price is great. The service is super nice. I always like coming here. Money well spent.
(5)Andrea N.
The breakfast food is very good but the wait is awful. Been sitting here over 35 min and just had the waitress tell us our food will be up soon. It's a weight loss regimen in disguise.

We were in town and had an Entertainment book coupon for this restaurant so we gave it a shot. It was excellent!! My wife had the smothered sirloin and it was cooked perfect. She had the German potato salad and it was the best I have ever had bar none. I had the scallops pasta that was also Devine. We will make a point to go back here again.
(5)Suzie S.
Very good breakfast. Very fast. Tasted homemade. We came up for ALMS, and was treated to an amazing and a fairly good priced meal. The waitresses that served us all very nice. It was a perfect Sunday morning breakfast.
(4)David B.
We went to The Braising Pan for dinner Thursday evening. We had Sauerbraten with red cabbage and spaetzle, and pork Schnitzel. As ALWAYS, our meal was great, fast and friendly service! Love this restaurant!, We go back there frequently .
(5)Nickolas T.
Nice, home style breakfast, won't knock your socks off, but they do a good job. Service was friendly and prompt. Their coffee however, Yuck!!
(3)Robert H.
Every time I visit this restaurant, I'm satisfied with the service, quality of the food and the friendly owners. But, it is really irritating to be impressed with the atmosphere and food, only to have cheap flatware take away from enjoying the eating experience. I would strongly recommend to the owners to get better eating utensils. Otherwse, this place rates 5 stars.

Went for breakfast on a Sunday morning, the place was packed. We were seated almost immediately. Our server greeted us promptly and was nice enough but seemed a little frazzled. Good choices for breakfast and specials too. I ordered what they called Biscuits and gravy Armageddon. Huge portion flaky biscuits covered in sausage gravy top with eggs. I am a snob when it comes to sausage gravy and this was some good stuff. Large pieces of sausage through out and the gravy actually had very good flavor not floury and bland like a lot I have tried. We will definitely try again. The improvements that I felt were needed was the service I would call it efficient not real friendly and that is a big selling point for me.
(4)Elizabeth M.
FANTASTIC sandwiches!! You could really tell that every ingredient was homemade and prepared with loving care. The staff was great too- very friendly. The atmosphere and decor were warm and old Germanic style. Truly a treasure!
(5)Amy M.
A great place should be great for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, right? Well. I went for breakfast, and I was not all that impressed. Dets: The service: Our waitress was nice enough and seemed concerned that we were happy. But, she made me feel like a thief or something. For example, I ordered hot tea. When she noticed I wasn't drinking it (cheap tea bags) she said she needed to remove them from the table before she gets in trouble. She went on to explan some of their crowd walks off with tea, salt and pepper shakers, etc. Odd but ok. The food: if you know me, you know I love pancakes. The pancakes were nothing special. Just not so tasty, regular old could make it from a box pancakes. My friend had oatmeal, and she only took a couple of bites. The consistency looked like it had been nuked to death or something. The price: ok...breakfast is cheap. If you are looking for a low cost meal, this is your place. Overall, it was just ok...nothing great...just kind of...there... P.S. Find a place for ur smokers to go other that right outside the front door. I really didn't enjoy walking through a cancer cloud to get in the place.

I had the Rinderrouladen. It was outstanding. All of the food we all had was outstanding. We will go back soon.

The Braising Pan (located in former Pinewood Restaurant location) specializes in German cuisine. First off, your order will take some time to prepare as, we were told, the entire menu is made from scatch. This wasn't an issue for us because we believe the quality was worth the wait. We had the fried mushroom appetizer; (I believe it was) a sliced portobella mushroom with a delicate, flaky breading & it came with a horseradish aioli sauce that complemented it nicely. The portion wasn't very large, but my husband and I found it satisfying considering how much food we ordered. We had a cup of the oxtail soup and were impressed by the heartiness. We were served a nice little loaf of homemade artisan bread. For entrees, we ordered the schnitzel (yum) with German potato salad (very nice) and liver & onions (tasty, with a delicious smoky bacon on top) with garlic mashed potatoes (out of this world). This was a nice dining experience. Our waitress was enthusiastic, sweet & helpful. We'll be going back on a Friday because they do a fish fry and have crab cakes. Yay!
(3)Nick S.
Bloody Mary with the works. Not a bad bloody at all. Had the Lumberjack breakfast. Breakfast is one of those things that is not too hard to do and shouldn't really get "messed" up. This meal was okay, but not outstanding. My bacon was way overcooked and dry as all get out. The service here was good, but there are definitely better options in West Bend...
(3)Bill J.
I was surprised at the variety of foods that they had to offer. For starters they had frog legs on the appetizer menu as well as a diverse amount of tasty German foods. I had to try a food challenge that was on the menu that was no small feat. The Burger was the size of my head!!! I would like to see this one in Man Vs. Food. I have to say that on a grind like this the food just gets old tasting fast, but not this burger it was excellent all the way to my utter failure. I will be coming back to this establishment to try their many German dishes.
(4)Jill S.
Visited the restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. We both ordered lunch. I had the chicken sandwich with mozzarella /spinach and artichokes. My husband ordered the meatloaf sandwich. Neither dish was good, it was OK. Neither had much flavor and the chicken was over cooked. Plus we waited over a half hour for our orders, and the place was not busy. Despite the good comments I have read about this restaurant, our experience was not good.

This is not just American Traditional. This is American traditional and German traditional. I have eaten in restaurants from Berlin to Munich to the Alps in Austria, the Frankischer Schweiz to Bonn and points in between. The German fare at the Braising Pan is not a frozen concoction but made from scratch. The spaetzle, German potato salad, sweet sour cabbage (Rotkohl), and the sauerbraten was fall apart with a fork tender. They are the real deal. My guest had the pork medallions (tenderloin) with home made chunky applesauce and were eually impressed. this person has studied gourmet cooking and knows good food. Nothing missing here. It took longer than expected to be served, which is what you expect in good restaurants. It was worth it. Go during the week when they are not being over run with Sunday brunchers and enjoy some of the best food in West Bend and teh best German food between Milwaukee and the Fox Valley.
